Black Milk - not so Popular Demand

You don't need a sorry weed-carrier has-been excuse of a rapper to tell you that Hip Hop is dead (or that Fox news sucks for that matter). But I can say that we all knew it was destined to become obsolete when rappers(rap being Hip Hop's ugly bastard child) gained more attention than fellow Hip Hop Djs/MCs/breakdancers/Graffiti artists combined. Of course, Rap went on to spawn Gangster rap (or gayngsta rap might be more familiar), from there, Crunk and other types of retardation moozik came. Other than good for being played when you're trying to get down and durrdy wid dem hos in da club, they're horrible.

To rebel, a movement happening around some of the northern parts of the U.S., specifically Detroit and Chicago which I call ' post-hip hop' or 'kibloplop' in which different basement dwellaz try to resurrect the fine art of sampling that's been somewhat kicked out out the Hip Hop/rap scene as of the early 2000s. Problem-Sampling is not just a fine art form, it's pretty much a dying artform.

I know we all love sampling, hell even I do it with my music. But Hip Hop is never going to be the way it used to. And god knows it costs more to clear samples for a Hip Hop song than it does to rent Jennifer Lopez as my personal lap dancer. So if you're going to spend that much moneh, you might as well use it to make something really good, unless you have a tub full o' cash. The most important of these idiots would have to be Kanye West, who's completely mediocre and over glorified Hip Hop bizniss is pushing NY artists out.

But Kanye has more than enough money to sample even the most modern songs and totally f*** them up (that faster badder shorter song, check dat shit- daft punk sampling). But other producers ain't got that cash.

Which brings me to the next basement dweller, Black Milk. This dude could be the next thing to rock Kibloplop production, since Madlib and the late J-dilla. He claims to hate being called Backpack Hip Hop and wants his bois to step up da game. But however, you need game to step it up. It's good enough to produce a number of nice songs, most of which shine than others above average. But if you're going to have to rap:

1) make sure you don't sound like you're totally high.
2) your raps are at least decent.
3) the rappers you feature on your album might as well be good, if can, better than you even.
4) Live up to the standard your Production sets, or just don't rap at all and leave it an instrumental, people love those (Can anyone say RJD2?).

People should just admit that they can't make Hip Hop the way it used to be made, because people nowadays have more different influences and are striving for much more different purposes. You know Hip Hop's really dead when it's constantly referred to as a game. The beats are manufactured, basslines are stiff. People don't even sample records good enough as the ones they used to. So you might as well find new ways to sample and hide your tracks, son.

Black Milk shouldn't be saddened at all That I think his album is way average compared to, say, Nas's Illmatic. He's probably one of the best compared to the modern 24 hour horror program that's playing on Music Channels (Don't tell me Lil wayne don't remind you of Predator). His production is really good, he has potential to be great, but needs something new. And needs to get rid of that Kibloplop face.

For the meanwhile, he should focus on topping Sene's absolutely free new album.
